    Hello Ginger nuts
I too live in northern ireland and my hubby and I rent out a house.
I understand your problem about finding insurance. Alot of insurance companies will not insure the property if you yourself are not living in it. And some will stipulate that you DO NOT rent the house to DHSS.
However, on this site I found the following
    https://www.autodirect.co.uk
Dont be alarmed.....they also do house insurance.

Their customer services is excellent.....very very helpful.

Their FREEPHONE number for home insurance enquiries 0800 028 5635

I think you will have to phone them as your home insurance is not a typical enquiry with you planning to let the property.

They got us insurance for the rented property through Norwich Union at a very very competitive price! Local insurance brokers were useless!

I hope this will be helpful to you.....
