Maybe you could align yourself with a local charity

Also try connecting with people who offer services such as wedding planning, financial planners etc - all will want will advice.

We had 3 months of a Macmillan Will Event were we donated money to macmillan for every Will we completed. went okish

I had the same thought about weddings etc but have not put this to the boss yet. Glad you suggested it as i had kind of forgotten about the idea

we align ourself with various estate agents to generate business also

If you change your [ QUOTE ] to [ /QUOTE ] (without the spaces) it will "close" them properly for you.

One reason why solicitors may have frosted windows is for privacy, of course. You might not want to be seen going in or out ... even if your 'interview' is in a back office where you can't be seen.
Signature removed for peace of mind

The green paint work is smart and professional so I wouldnt change it.

With regard to will writing and aligning with charities which you said went okish, did you use the local press to your advantage and get them promoting it? The local rags tend to love stories like this.

Networking - I cannot stress this enough, there are plenty of free or low membership fee networking events out there you may only need to pay for breakfast, Get yourselves out there - there are will writers at every single network event that I have ever been too as well as solicitors, you never know you may just be able to form a collaboration with a solicitor that offers business law whilst you do wills. To be honest, I am more likely to use a company that I have met when networking than one that I don't know at all.

On your blog, you could ask people to write guest ones and maybe even write them yourself. Why not do a piece on what would happen if a person died intestate and then probate researchers have to be brought in to find long lost relatives to ensure the money/chattels don't go the government. Maybe you could do a piece on famous wills anything to make life a bit more interesting.
  • One of my clients is a firm of Solicitors and they get a lot of business via the web. Their website is very much a 'resource' site and is well optimised to boot. The solicitors themselves contribute to the content of the website and ensure that as well as encouraging people to enquire, they offer lots of 'free' information to keep people coming back.

I would suggest that more emphasis is placed upon the website. If your boss is not particularly interested in the web, why not point out some local competitors who appear to have good, well ranking sites? If he sees others doing it, he may be encouraged to act?

Another technique my client uses is article marketing. They write very high quality, topical articles and have them published on industry related sites. This promotes them wore widely as a trusted source and helps to generate links to the site, which helps with search engine rankings.

My top Twitter tip - might seem obvious - but make sure you use hashtags in your tweets. When we manage social networking for clients, we've found it makes a huge difference, even with a relatively small following.

The boss really likes the green and the whole office is green and all the letter head logo etc. so maybe just a re paint to brighten it up a bit.

We really really have tried with the press in our area, unfortunatly they seem to be very greedy and just want money for every story. We have had some coverage, we also did a leaflet drop advertising our Will Event on one side and our Conveyancing promotion on the other, we have various wedsites etc who have also been very helpful. We have banners and balloons outside the office promoting the fact it is to raise money for Macmillan and posters in local shops and estate agents. Like i said it seems to be very hard to get the press to help, we had a section in the local paper about the new office opening, they charged £100 for a little piece that we had to write ourselves.

the will promotion is supposed to end this month, its been going for 3 months, the boss wanted just to carry it on as he has not raised as much for Macmillan as he had hoped. I said we should end it as we said, get the press to do a bit on it saying how much we had raised for the charity and that we would do it again in the future. The way i see it is any money raised for the charity is a good thing and we should be proud and promote the fact that we have raise some.
i have made a list of ideas and thoughts for the boss, based on what you have said here and what i have thought of. So shall see what happens.

we do do all aspects of Law, conveyancing, employment law as well as wills and probate, it was just at the moment with conveyancing being very slow due to the economic climate we were trying to promote the Wills more.

    Thanks for all who posted

The solicitors around here (Bournemouth) do a lot of sponsoring networking groups, breakfast clubs etc.
