Time to transfer Direct Debits ?

I've changed the current account that a couple of my direct debits use but I was wondering how long does it take, for them to disappear from the one account and appear in the other?

Thanks

Often they will not show up in the new account until the first payment is actually taken - it depends on how the company taking the DD operates.

Make sure you keep enough money in both accounts for the DDS - many banks will give you a interest/fee-free overdraft while the switch is taking place.

The Direct Debits are with British Gas. I've moved the DD's to a current account which I intend to switch to Santander so that I can take them up on their incentive offer. Maybe I should ring British Gas to see if they have been moved yet.

Spoke to BG, the new current account is registered with them but like already mentioned, the DD won't show up in the new account until the first payment is taken (10th June).

So can I start the Santander switch now or do I have to wait until until the first payment is taken as it's not showing up in the new current account yet?

    Thanks

In that case, you don't actually need to move DDs ... the T&Cs of the £100 switching offer state two direct debits or standing orders.

You can just set up a couple of 'dummy' standing orders (e.g. for £1, to two other accounts in your name), and get Santander to switch these for you.

If you do want to switch the BG DD, then wait until it's showing in your existing current account before switching.
