Cooker out of stock at short notice

I ordered a cooker on the internet last week and choosed green delivery and paid £9.99 for the removal of the old cooker. I am expecting delivery tomorrow and received a call saying that it is out of stock and will not be available until next week. I am fuming as I co-ordinated everything as I am having new floor in the kitchen. It would have been too bad but a scrap merchant was passing by and asked whether he could have the cooker and I said yes. Have I known a bit earlier I would not have got rid of the old cooker until I get the new one. I asked for a discount and it was declined. I want to know what are my rights as I am going to be without a cooker for a week, and I do not know how I am going to manage, I think the company should compensate me. All he said these tings do happen. They had a whole week to find out that the item was out of stock. Thanks

As the saying goes, "s***" happens. Why do you think that a slight disappointment entitles you to "compensation". It's not going to get you your cooker any earlier. What you are asking the supplier to do is, in essence, to fine themselves for a slight slip-up. The fact that you got rid of your cooker earlier than you should have, is hardly the fault of the supplier. A scrap metal dealer would always come back at a later date if he really wanted the scrap.I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.0 -
Its not the end of the world, I wouldnt think it warrants compensation apart from knocking the money off for dismantling and taking your old one away.
Microwave, Steamer, George Foreman, sandwich maker. egg boiler.
I dont have a hob at all (I do have an oven) I havent had one for years, I utilise all the above, the only thing i would need to do on a hob is fry an egg so I didnt bother again even when i got my new kitchen fitted. You'll manage, look on it as a challenge.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
Aye, you have the right to spend the week eating out / microwaved food / with friends / the odd takeaway for the next 7 days..... and receive some mildly abrasive posts on internet forums for thinking you're entitled to compensation.0

No doubt you will be seeking compensation from the scrap man for taking your cooker away before the new one had arrived.
Its your own fault for letting the old one go before the new one had arrived. That is just stupid.
Also, if you look at the small print concerning delivery, you will probably see a phrase like 'reasonable endeavours' which means thay will try and get it to you when they say, but by no means guarantee and they will not be liable for any losses as a result of failed delivery.Eat vegetables and fear no creditors, rather than eat duck and hide.0 -
as a single man i spent 15 yrs without a cooker/oven.
