My PC has been attacked by a virus which switches off MS Security Essentials, and Windows Defender which I have been running as my anti virus protection.
The virus comes in various forms with names like XP Pro Anti Software, to claim it will protect and remove viruses, when in fact it does the opposite.
In my case it prevents me downloading a fix, or running a System Restore and even runs in Safe Mode.
MS are no help, claiming virus protection systems can only ever be 95% proof and this particular virus is the exception which proves the rule.
They have a hot line in the States for users infected there but for Europe just refer you to third party anit virus suppliers - and the software recommended is blocked by the virus itself on my pc.
Anyone else been hit?
