A MSEr has just posted this on another thread:
We apologise for any confusion. The wrong advert was printed in Tuesday's edition of the Sun. This was entirely due to a third party error. Tesco have in no way changed our policy and will not be reintroducing double the difference.
We are still committed to bringing our customers the best prices possible and are happy to refund the difference if you should find your shopping cheaper at Asda.
However we do appreciate that this advert may have caused confusion and disappointment and therefore Tesco are happy to check receipts from shops on the 17th and up to 17.00 on the 18th May and refund double the difference up to £20.
Heres how :
Customers should enter their receipt into Price Check as normal. This must be done by Sunday 29th May 2011 for shops conducted on Tuesday 17th May 2011 or Wednesday 18th May 2011, before 17 :00.
Once the single the difference voucher is received customers should redeem in store as usual and keep the original receipt.
They should then post the original receipt along with a note of their email address and the date it was entered into Price Check. This needs to be received by Tesco on or before Monday 6th June 2011

Our Customer Service Centre will check the date on the receipt to confirm it has been entered into Price Check.
If so, customers will receive by post a Tesco Moneycard for the original price check voucher amount up to the limit of £20, plus the cost of a second class stamp. This represents a total Price Check refund of double the difference. This will be returned within 7-14 days of submission.
Interesting and a better response than when they withdrew DTD in April with an hour or so of notice. How come they didn't take the same stance then as that would have been fair - as it stands, anyone who bought items having seen the adverts on the television the day before and indeed it is still being openly displayed in some stores, have been misled. Changing it at midday to receipt entered, rather than items purchased/date and time of receipt (and applying this to any purchases made before 12 not just those that day), was dishonest and plainlly wrong. I was caufght out, as were many others.
Why is their advertising error (in this case) being treated differently to their major change to Refund the Difference in April - the same approach could have been taken which would have been fairer to customers?

Interesting that it is retrospective i.e. issued AFTER 5pm! Naughty Tesco!
I had a feeling that this would happen but CBA even trying to DTD yesterday - too many chances for something to 'go wrong' e.g. your receipt gets 'lost' in the post, or the moneycard gets 'lost' on its way to you. Hi thought I'd put my penny in here I normally just read they forums but this has annoyed me how tesco are treating there customers by fools
so i phone the sun adds team They said the add was summited ages ago not aloud to be specific on dates time or people but it was summited by tesco and not ask to retract it that he is aware.
now if this is the case what i read on this forum is true. They pulled the dtd promo because of royal wedding taking over publicity and forgot about the advert being placed so it is there error.
I also phoned tescos yesterday morning who said they are going too honour it normal way today i get single the difference phoned them and there reply was same as above to send to cardiff no mention of shopping time at all my reciept time is 5.30
I'm going to send it of but get proof of postage and keep a copy of reciept I know its only £8.20 but tescos are being so back handed:mad:
and to get more of my chest i complained too:
Advertising Standards Authority Tel: 020 7492 2222
Mid City Place Fax: 020 7242 3696
71 High Holborn
London
WC1V 6QT
so this does not happen again more people to complain to them the better so they take it seriously"It is your decisions, and not your conditions, that determine your destiny".0 -

This was highlighted on Watchdog last night, and they said that Tesco said that they would honour it under certain circumstances.....hmmmm.Father Ted: Now concentrate this time, Dougal. These
(he points to some plastic cows on the table) are very small; those (pointing at some cows out of the window) are far away...:D:D
