Retrospective Insurance Claim - Is it Possible?

I was involved in an accident last August in which I sustained a broken collar bone (which is still healing). I noticed on renewal of my Personal Accident Insurance that I would have been entitled to make a claim for the fracture. Is it posible to make the claim now even though the accident was 9 months ago?
I was definitely covered at the time but hadn't realised I was covered for fractures (assumed just loss of limb, use of limb, permenant disability, etc.).

No harm in trying. See if the policy states any time limit in which to claim.0

hey there
might be worth giving htem a call to find out because if you are unable to do it through them they may be able to give you some advice on what you can do?
If they can't help it might be worth getting some advice and support from CAB or other personal accident claim firms who may be able to help you?to be happy0 -

Boy you guys are quick to respond. Thanks.
There is a statement on the policy which states as soon as possible after the accident and at the latest within 60 days after. The purpose of my post was to see if there was any statutory consumer protection that may override this, before I made the call to them. But I guess as you say I should make the call first and see what they say.0 -
Are you saying you were involved in accident that was against someone else?
If so then you have 3 years to make a claim.
If its your own policy your claiming from, then you have proof e.g a x ray so dont think the 60 days matter.
You will have to see what they say.0 -

So what's the point in having a time limit then?
I run a personal accident scheme for an employers organisation (not an insurance policy) and claims submitted after 3 months are not covered, full stop. However, they do tend to bend the rules on occasion if a grovelling apologetic letter is received explaining why it wasn't submitted before.
I don't know if an insurer would be as accommodating though.0 -
Thanks to everyone for responding. For info - I made the call and explained the situation. I was asked to submit a claim form and it will be considered. I guess it will then be at the mercy of the underwriters. Will keep you posted...0
