Mothercare to shut 110 High Street Stores

Morning all,

Just seen a press release to state Mothercare will be shutting 110 high street stores shortly - look out for those baby bargains while you can!!

Not sure if this is a good or a bad thing really, I find them quite over priced for most things, but a national institution all the same I guess

It's odd, when I need something for DS, my first thought is usually "mothercare" then I go and am disappointed 99% of the time and buy elsewhere. :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

    I've been Money Tipped!
I only tend to use mothercare to play with the prams and pushchairs...then buy them on-line elsewhere or ebay

That's the problem with Mothercare - it's not competitively priced, so people go to "look" at things, then buy from online retailers who can charge much less as they don't have the cost of running a highstreet store.
Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

Mothercare can be more expensive-i end up doing the same browsing there, and then buying elsewhere!

  • I think mothercare were able to corner the market in first time parents who had little idea on what were reasonable prices, that worked for them until internet shopping made even first time parents aware that they're often the most expensive.

I went into a mothercare once, and was disgusted by how much things cost in there, left without anything. Didn't go back!

'I only tend to use mothercare to play with the prams and pushchairs...then buy them on-line elsewhere or ebay' and this is one reason small specialist shops (not Mothercare!) go out of business. Use the shop keeper's expertise and the facility to actually handle goods - then go and buy on the internet. Best of both worlds. Mind you, our local specialist electrical shop is actually cheaper than some of the big names.
