Dla and other benefits advise please

For just over a year now we have been trying to get a diagnosis for our daughter for asd, which we have just has yesterday. However, i was never told you could claim dla before you were diagnosed. So now that i have claimed is there any way they will backdate this if it is awarded. Also are there any other benefits we can claim, we also adapted the house last year so she could have her own bedroom? Is there any way to recoup these costs?

Even with a diagnosis for your child does not guarantee you will get DLA for her so there is no way they will backdate it if you did not put a claim in back then, not sure about the house work you did though as I think you get assistance from your local authortity/council with that.

As a general rule it's best to assume that you can't backdate benefits and grants prior to your application. There are exceptions but they are usually time limited to 12 weeks.

I think you are going to find that you cannot apply for funding to cover adaptions that have already taken place, or money that has already been spent.
