I think the people who deliver your goods have a duty of care to take away the old one because of WEEE laws?

I live in a brand new 2nd floor flat, and didn't have any problem with the people who delivered my huge L-shaped sofa and fridge freezer. Nor with Ikea who delivered my massive 2.4m high wardrobe.
  • Thank you for taking time to reply everybody!

I have been going round in circles for some time trying to sort something out.

I will definitely by online as if I went in-store I would walk out having being talked into a £600 machine on credit with extended warranty. :)

To some people getting a washing machine is such a trivial thing, but I have been going round in circles for some time. Not procrastination, just being unable to decide and find it difficult asking for help.

I wil have a look at the other forum, repost there, and take into account all your recommendations.

    Many thanks,

    Danny.
  • Hi, I've got one of these:

    http://www.coolkitchen.co.uk/appliances/compare/beko-wme7247w.aspx?gclid=CNnTo9P38agCFQUKfAod_RNcDQ

Fantastic machine - has a quick wash which you can use at any temp between 90 deg & 30 deg (40 deg = 50 mins, 60 deg = 1hr).

I did check A*rgos as I got mine there on offer (usually around the £300 mark) but no luck - a few in the link above.

I've got stuff from Sa*insbury before & they were fine - & you get nectar points

    2016 Sell: £125/£250
    £1,000 Emergency Fund Challenge #78 £3.96 / £1,000
    Vet Fund: £410.93 / £1,000
Debt free & determined to stay that way!
  • Have you checked Boots kitchen appliances, they have some very good deals plus points and quidco

I live in rented with inclusive white goods and weve got the cheapest Currys own washing machine, absolutely fine.
Dont worry too much about the price, no doubt the insides are pretty much the same just with a different label. Its generally not worth worrying about brand unless you are buying expensive for a lot of appliances imo.

Presumably you have a lift? When I lived on the first floor of a block with no lift, Argos took my cooker back to the store, refunded my card, and still charged me delivery.

To the OP, our council takes white goods away; not only that, it provides employment and training to young people by fixing them and then re-selling them with a years guarantee. May be worth looking whether there is something similar in your area.

    Have you tried Freecycle?
Offer out your old one stating the fault, someone might take it for spares or refurb.
Also you could ask if anyone has an old one needing a new home.

Best thing is its free which is much cheaper than £250 ;)
To get it you may need to hire a van for an hour or a man with a van.
