Delta/KLM Codeshare Check-in

Hi,

I have a flight booked through Delta to Las Vegas in July and I'm a bit unsure of the online check-in procedure in respect of codeshare and non codeshare flights if anyone can help me.

My flight is from Leeds/Bradford to Amsterdam (Delta codeshare with KLM), Amsterdam to Minneapolis (Delta) & Minneapolis to Las Vegas (Delta).

On Delta's website it says that for codeshare flights you should check-in with the codeshare airline, which in my case would be KLM. However, I'm confused as to whether this will also check me in for the Delta segments of my journey or not, or do I have to check-in with Delta as well.

Also, if someone could clarify this for me, I've been told that although the maximum check-in time is 24 hours before the flight, I should not check-in until 24 hours before the last leg (Minneapolis to Vegas) because if I do check-in earlier it will only check me in for the legs of the flight that take-off within the 24 hour period of me checking in.

e.g. my flight from Leeds/Bradford leaves at 9.15am, so if I check-in at 9.15am 24 hours prior to that it would only check me in for that the Leeds/Bradford to Amsterdam flight.

I was also told that if for some reason I do check-in too early for one of my flight legs, that I won't be able to go back in and try to check-in for the other legs as it won't let me do this.

Hopefully that makes some sense to someone, I have no idea if what I was told is reliable, I just want to make sure I have all my bases covered and don't end up at Amsterdam or Minneapolis to find out that I don't have a seat on the plane.

Thanks

Checking in on your first flight with KLM will check you in for your Delta flights too.

You can check in 24 hours in advance for your first flight. All connecting flights, even if more than 24 hours in advnace, can also be checked in to at that time.

Will I be able to arrange seat assignments for all flights when checking in at KLM?

Yep, I have been able to do so in the past.
    Gone ... or have I?
  • I have just wasted hours this morning, trying to check 1 extra item of baggage in with KLM. I too, had booked through Delta, I also went on Delta to check in within 24 hours of my flight. I was redirected to KLM check in, as my first flight is from Humberside to Amsterdam. First the skymiles number was not recognised. KLM had our Delta numbers already entered. After a few attempts, I decided to delete the skymiles numbers. I then had to fill in some extra info and passport numbers, then clicked onto stage 2 ( success). My flight details came up ok, seating I had chosen before,ok. But what I wanted to do was pre pay for my extra case? There was no section to fill in for my baggage, to claim my online 20% discount?
I checked again, and again, then I rang KLM. That was 15mins. of wasted time. They told me everything I already knew about my flights, and that my first of 3 flights to the USA was with KLM, that is why the check in is with them? I was then told I was not entitled to the online baggage discount because we booked through Delta? I rang Delta, 14mins later I got through to someone, who said the same as KLM. We could not book our excess baggage because our first flight is a KLM flight?? Both airlines are partners or codeshare, but neither of them want to help you, or are not prepared to? How frustated I am at trying to save some money, andn now I have to go to the desk and pay full money before my flight. This is also annoying because the fee for the extra bag must go to KLM? I am totally dumbfounded to why a simple task of paying for baggage cannot be done online purely on the booking number?
  • We have also had nightmares with KLM/Delta checkins and seat allocations. We found neither Bristol or Amsterdam could allocate seats for our last leg into Vegas but it wasn't an issue after we landed in the US but until that point they had myself, my husband & our 2 yr old all sat in different sections!
