Best place to buy a bathroom?

I need to buy a complete bathroom which we plan to fit ourselves but I am willing to shop around and buy the basin, unit, bath, shower and accessories, etc from different places to save money.
Unfortunately, my brother has completely fallen for the "up to 50% spring sale and we'll pay the VAT" nonsense at bathstore and he now insists on spending an eye watering £4,000 there because he thinks he's getting an £8,000 bathroom.
Any advice would be appreciated.
Also, what are the "ThermaForm" baths at bathstore? Are they worth the extra over the normal baths?

Thermaform on an acrylic bath holds the heat better, you can get one from Carron as they have been making them for years for about £450 just checked what BS charge and I wonder what the quality is like.......
I went to an independent to order my stuff, Carron bath, Duravit basin and unit, Duravit pan and Gerberit WC frame and spent a lot less then what you have been quoted at the Bathroom Store picked up Hansgrohe taps and mixers from Ebay.
Have a look at my renovation thread https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/30574020 -
Screwfix do a surprising wide range of stuff, some very well priced.

We bought ours from Better Bathrooms.
We bought P Shaped whirlpool bath
Overhead shower
towel rail
square toilet
basin with unit
taps (bath and sink)
accessories (roll holder, toothbrush holder, shower shelves etc)
It came to 2,100 delivered to Guernsey, then we had vat off as well, so for us it came in at 1,700 - which was about 5k cheaper than we could have got for the same stuff over here.0 -

Thanks, I have seen your thread and your bathroom is actually very similar to what we're aiming for except we'll need to buy a shower which will add to the cost quite significantly. I've spent the last hour searching around and have already managed to knock an impressive £1600 off the price by finding some bargains online and I think I could knock that down even further.
We're now looking at this "Euro Duo Wenge vanity unit and basin from bathstore which comes in at £475. I'm not sure if that's a good deal or not? The good thing is that it'll match the side panels of the bath if we buy it from bathstore but I do prefer your basin which completely covers the vanity.
The shower enclosure and tray my brother was looking at in bathstore came to around £800 once we added the side panels which I thought was just too expensive so I'm now looking for a cheaper but decent quality alternative from somewhere else. Any pointers anyone?
I've found a shower valve and head which I like the look of at bathstore but I'm still looking for cheaper alternatives.
diable, can I ask the exact model of Hansgrohe taps and mixers which you have? I might get them on Ebay as well. The taps and mixers my brother was looking at in bathstore came to nearly £400 which I thought was too expensive.
I've found a nice LED mirror with a shaver socket for £150 and I will be getting the heated towel rail from NWT Direct which will come to around £100, saving us hundreds!
Then we'll need all the little accessories which seemed a rip off at bathstore - they came to over £200 in total and I know I can probably at least half that.0 -
The basin tap is the Talis S can't remember the bath mixer but if you have a separate shower check out the Ecostat range, Hansgrohe have an outlet store on Ebay
Can't remember if the bath mixer is the Verso as I would have to check my paperwork tomorrow.
My towel rail is also form NWT Direct cost about £120 delivered.
I paid about £90 for the basin tap including the waste and the mixer with the shower rail came in at about £120.0 -
Thanks.
I've almost chosen most of the bathroom stuff now but I still haven't chosen a shower enclosure yet. I like the Atlas shower enclosure at Bathstore but once you add the side panels and tray it comes to almost £800 which I am not prepared to pay. That is the type of design I am looking for though. It's going to be in a corner so I want it to have a hinged/pivot door and it want it to be decent quality.
Can anyone recommend any particular brand of shower enclosures to look at or where I should be looking?
Many thanks.0 -
If you have a large bathroom can you not fit a larger shower tray and just have a step in shower as I fid that any shower with a screen on runners or wheels will eventually have problems.
I am biased to Duravit
I hadn't considered a walk in shower before and would love to have one. I'm not sure if I have the space though so will have to do some measuring up tomorrow. I guess a walk in shower would work out a lot cheaper than a full enclosure as well. :j0 -
Go to a proper bathroom showroom and deal with people who know what they are talking about.0
