How easy for novice to rip up tiles from floor?

Hi,
I have a new house and the floor in hall is tiled. I would ideally like to lay real / engineered wood down. I've been advised to rip the tiles up myself. As a novice and a female (don't want to offend any great women DIYers out there!), how easy would this be and would I need a skip etc? What tools???
TIA...

Bolster, club hammer and goggles and rubble sacks.

Oh boy, it is sounding like really hard work!!! Ha, ha, knew it would be, why oh why did I buy this place?!?!?!?
The house was built in 1993. Not sure of what is underneath, would assume concrete (haven't moved in as yet, trying to plan programme of stuff and budget). Maybe get a handyman in to look at it....0 -

'93, probably concrete which should make it easier to do. as someone has said chisel, gloves, hammer, once you get under the edge of one and several taps should see it come up and then should all be pretty easy, depends how much adhesive might be harder, i'm going to pour some self levelling compound over the floor and old adhesive, as long as its not loose etc.
if your doing a house up theres a house reno thread somewhere around here, quite a few people are on there discussing issues and sharing ideas etc.Listen to what people say, but watch what people what people do!!0 -
Appreciate the advice. Not so much doing up a house, it's more I've bought a house that has had a lot of money and love spent on it, yet not quite to my taste. Just trying to get it right, but every room I look into, I see more and more work which needs doing!!! I think some things will just have to wait.0
