Sound insulation between floors

    yeah i put in 150mm wool, the only mention on the drawings was for wool in the walls around the ensuite.

    It is worth saying that you ought to be using proper acoustic grade RWA45 or RS45 insulation - not the cheap roof insulation which is nowhere near dense enough to have much effect. If isolation is important you also need some kind of compliant layer in the construction.

    I have just done my lounge ceiling in my flat (converted Victorian house).

    Ceiling down
    150mm Acoustic Rockwool between joists
    Resilient bars attached to joints
    1 layer of 15mm Soundbloc Plasterboard
    1 layer of Green Glue
    then another layer of 15mm Soundbloc Plasterboard

    This has made a massive difference to sound levels between flats.
    Just the bedroom to do now.
