    These machines need an external drive for a Factory Restore. That's if they still have the Restore Discs. They could conceivably faff around for hours trying to get it down from 7GB to 1.5GB or they could just use Ubuntu if they are not hung up on Windows.
    If they don't like Ubuntu, I'll happily point them towards the DELL XP disc. Though they'll still need an external optical drive.

    If you want Ubuntu, I recommend the normal version. The netbook remix used to be good but newer versions are really slow on the Mini 9 now.

    If you want Windows, don't remove the updates. Instead, remove any unwanted applications, ensure the recycle bin, system restore, etc are limited to a small portion of the total disk space. Use TreeSize Free to see where the disk space is being used.
