Advice for a newbie landlord

I've rented out the flat I own over the last two years through a letting agency, but now my tenants have given notice I'm thinking of finding and managing the new tenants by myself. Can anyone out there give me any tips on how to go about this? Would it be possible to credit search the new tenants myself, as the letting agent did? Does anyone know how you do this? How do I draw up the tenancy agreement? Should I take out additional insurance? How do I find good tenants? Any other advice would be greatly appreciated!

Also, have you searched on the very site you're posting on for previous similar queries before setting yourself up to be shot at by the "we hate BTL" element that prey on the weak in this board?!
