Whats the norm when working your notice in redundancy?

Do employers usually make you work it or do they just pay you and send you on your way?

    It varies a lot.

    Some want you out, so thanks and PILON

    Some don't want you in the office but might need you or don't want you working elsewhere, so garden leave.

    Some want you to work even if theree is nothing to do.

    I worked for 2 months doing handover and got PILON.

    And look into Pilon, if pilon is not in your original contract they are not supposed to take tax and NI off your paymeent and should treat it as compensation.

    Have I got my facts right, you get 1 weeks notice for every year served taxed etc? then your redundancy after that?

    One weeks notice for each full year of service

    Redundancy - Statutory is one weeks pay for every full year of service. 1 and a half weeks pay if you are over 41 years of age.

    Any accrued holiday pay.

    My company wants everybody to work notice, rarely see exceptions. This is mainly so we can continue efforts to redeploy within the company during notice period and avoid dismissal claims. Also PILON has become problematic when HMRC believe it has become our default position. Really depends on the company.

    This gives a misleading impression. PILON is tax free - that is not the same thing as paid gross. Many employers pay the amount net, others may pay it gross. being paid PILON is beneficial, but not necessarily in the terms you imply. It is ignored as taxable income.
