estate agent complant.

i am between exchange and completion on a sale of a house with a well known chain of EAs. i have a fairly serious complaint about one member of staff and among other things have been left £100 out off pocket. i have done nothing about it as yet, wondering what is the best way to tackle it. the member of staff is ignoring all my calls to solve the problem, never calls back when i leave a message and runs off when i go in to the office. i have wrote i letter to the manager and head office, as yet un-posted. if this gets me nowhere i am thinking of withholding £100 from the bill i will get on completion. i know this is probably wrong but it may work to save a scandal.
any thoughts?

£100 isnt a great deal of money, and Im sure you and them could negotiate etc, but the behaviour of the EAs makes it sound really bad. Why run off, why ignore your clients and so forth. this is really unacceptable.

Id def withhold £100 but more importantly the complaint about the staffs behaviour must go in and start being dealt with.
 Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
    This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast
  • If you want to withhold any money tell your solicitor because they usually just pay once all the paper work has been done.

Also as it is a large chain make sure you tell the head office. I had a disagreement with a large chain of Estate Agents and got a letter from debt recovery only last week because the branch neglected to say that the account should have been amended. In my case my mother-in-law died and because we at first rented her flat and later sold it. The same agents were handling the letting and the sale but they neglected to give Notice to the tenant and so the buyer could not get vacant possession. Our solicitor ended up giving all the legal Notices and billed us for it so said we should negotiate a reduction in out bill which we did and subsequently paid. However the head office were not told any of this and so had the whole amount shown as outstanding because the revised invoice was issued without canceling the original one.

thanks all. my partner is the solicitor, so no problem there! just spoken to the member of staff involved, maybe she reads this!. she has promised to resolve the problem before completion on 13th jan, but has been saying this for the last 3 months. i push a lot of business there way and have been very happy to date but because of this i will have to go elsewhere, which is a shame. i think i should let head office know of this persons behavior.
