Freezing garlic ?
I have a glut of small garlic cloves. They are a too small to dry and use later but thought I could chop them up and freeze them. I think they have contracted some sort of rust ,the leaves have died off so no point leaving them in the ground.
Anyone any thoughts ?

My garlic came to nothing last year so I spent an evening peeling the tiny cloves, left them whole but slightly crushed, and froze them. They kept perfectly well in a plastic tub. I used from frozen for anything you would use fresh garlic for so I would say yes, freezing is a definite option

Agree, you can mince the cloves and store in a tub in the freezer, just scoop off what you need as and when.
I wouldn't be too keen to dig them up just yet though, they may fill out some more - usual harvesting time is July/August when the leaves die back. The rust affects the leaves not the bulbs.
I won't start using mine until June, and then I'll only dig up one bulb at a time on an as needed basis.
Seems a shame you have so many small bulbs; which variety did you plant?0 -

Hi Sally A, thanks for the reply. I'm not sure of the variety I think they sprouted from some bulbs I had left in the ground last year. That could be the reason for the small bulbs ? Taste good anyway. Maybe I'll pull some up and freeze and leave the others to see what happens.:):)0 -
I never knew you could freeze garlic, thanks peeps. Another useful tip! I threw my garlic on the compost heap last year because they didn't do anything (due to lack of watering), shoudl have kept them. Oh well hindsight & all that.0

you'll have lots of Garlic growing in your compost then?
Did you realise that for every clove, they'll grow a bead? And if you let them go to seed, you'll have squillions (as I've found out)The smaller the monkey the more it looks like it would kill you at the first given opportunity.
