30th Birthday Celebrations

I didn't ask for anything special for my 30th, and I ended up going out on a surprise meal, and my mum and dad got me a laptop! I was absolutely flabbergasted as they'd never had any money (maybe me moving out helped their finances!).
However, I wouldn't expect such a gift and would have been quite happy with a DVD, clothes voucher or something similar.Sealed Pot Challenge #817 £50 banked0 -
im 34, and dont do parties since a disasterous one when about 15 but there would be no way i would have expected one when i turned 30, especially if i had had one when 18 and/or 21
i did however get a special present from my mum (a tiffany id bracelet) mainly it was my 30th and my first birthday since my dad had died - but i was still living at home and a only child my mum told me her budget for a present and i choose it0 -
i wouldn't have wanted my parents to be at my 30th 'party' (out at a bar with friends with a free reserved area)...... too much alcohol involved!! but we did have a family meal together (although not out at a restaurant) that was lovely. if you want to give something special, that's lovely; demanding special gifts sounds a bit more like a toddler to me....... i'll have a strong word about him being an adult and that he's a bit old for his parents to be in charge of his social life. it's the asking for special gifts that gets me - that's rude!:happyhear0

I think 30 is a big birthday and if he's not in a relationship, I would want to make a fuss of him.
Something engraved would be lovely, and not very expensive. One option is a hip flask or a personalised wallet.
Did he say what he would like? To be honest, if I have the money if family of friends want something special, like mum wanted an actifry, I get them a present. If they don't want or need anything, they might get a few of their favourite chocolates or some new biscuits i.e. there were some turkish delight biscuits about for a short time, basically a token gift because I don't believe in wasting money.
If he wanted something, like say a TV, and I could afford it, I would get it him and tell him it's for Christmas, too, and then just get him a book or similiar for Christmas.0 -
For my 30th my family threw me a party and bought me a private reg plate for my car
I am certainly not spoilt, have worked since I was 15 for my own money, been fiercely independant and have never asked for anything, I guess they just fancied spoiling me.....but then my 21st was rubbish for a million reasons I won't go into, and I was MUCH happier by the time I turned 30, so to me and my family, it WAS a very important birthday.
Each to their own.....but I would never demand anything from my parents, I am an adult after all....plus it's my husband who spoils me now!0 -
I've not had a birthday party since I was 6!!! I'm 25 this year.
It's h2b's sisters 30th birthday in a few weeks I don't know what she's planning.
