When it comes to cabin choice, obviously a Balcony Suite is best.
People who say different are kidding you and themselves. They choose an Inside cabin for economic reasons and nothing else.

Quite right, economics ! Those who pay huge sums for balconies have more money than sense ! :rotfl::rotfl:

Yes economics is a factor, but a pitch black inside cabin allows our children to wake up when they are refreshed not when the sun comes up!

An i have to say i sleep really well too!!

I would really encourage you to fly to a Med. destination, you will get a much better cruise out of it and miss the Bay of Biscay which is really really ropey and if you are prone to sea sickness, could well put you off for life!

I also agree about inside cabins - we once had a porthole and hated it, I love the cabin being pitch black and I always sleep amazingly well! If you honestly think you'll spend the time in the cabin enjoying the balcony then go for it but I know for us it would be a waste as there is is about 2 hours (other than sleeping) where we are in the cabin.

Thompson cruises (other than the Thomson Dream) are very good value for money if you can get the all inclusive deal, plus kids are cheaper too I think, but they operate out of Palma and Corfu.

Have fun! It is honestly the best holiday you'll ever have!

But canny cruisers wait until there are offers on balcony cabins and don't pay huge sums ;)

We wouldn't have enjoyed our fjords cruise as much without being able to have our first cuppa of the day on the baclony watching the scenery drift by.

You get your inside cabin even cheaper !

You drink your tea if you want - we went "up top", and got free hot chocolate laced with Capt Morgan's! hic !

Look at the other school holiday dates, often overlooked by families but much better pricing.

    eg June 1/2 term

£260pp 7night cruise only ex Palma.(if you can find a flight) or £600 with flight from Bristol.

£700pp for NCL Jade with flight departs venice.

If you can be flexable I would wait if you can, then go for a late deal on a short list of options.

As has been said 7-10 days won't be a med Ex Southampton you need 14 for that.

Don't forget to add Princees to your list of ships ex southampton

Thompson should leave Cruises to the big boys and stick to what they know best..........Package holidays to Spain.

Thompson Cruises are a disgrace, all their boats are one step from the Knacker's Yard

I really appreciate all the helpful information and links

We have settled on P & O Oceana on August 13th, 2 weeks Mediterranean. The lowest quote we have got is £3010 from the Thomas Cook website. Our local Thomas Cook quoted us £3200 or so. This is for an inside cabin. We will hopefully be booking by the end of next week. If anyone knows anywhere where we could get an ever lower price, please share :D Otherwise, we'll be completely happy with this price and will be very much looking forward to what seems like an outstanding first cruise experience :)

What do you get for your £3010 ?

I may be totally wrong here but I am shocked by your price ! I have just looked at a cruise website we use sometimes, Jetline and they are quoting £1099 per person !!!!!!

Thomas Cook are charging £1,048.11 for myself and my wife, and £662.16 for our 8 year old son :) Here, I'll paste the quote up for you. I'm hoping there's no hidden charges or anything when we actually book.....
