You should go onto a comparison website and see what the cheapest fixed or capped deal is in your area. You will find a cheaper deal online, but it will be a variable rate, therefor it wont be a cheap deal for long since the prices are about to go up. Cap or fix your rates for a few years and you wont have to worry about it.

    Yep and

Energyhelpine are pretty good and they also seem to hilight the early exit fees and potential loss of discount should you decide yo move on.

Capped deals are good at fixing your energy tariff for a given period helping with budgeting. Fixed rates are available online - I am on one.

Just remember though that you may have a big step up next time you renew.

I have used BG/Atlantic Energy and EoN so far.

Personally the only problems I have had are the fact they keep putting the price up so make sure you shop around each time your tariff is up for review.

EoN were certainly good with their online systems.

A number of suppliers will also give you energy monitors, to let you watch how much you are using, from the comfort of your armchair. Might help you understand where it all goes.

If it isn't a new property make sure you get your property insulated properly. Local councils do provide some help with cavity wall insulation., mine only cost £49 and roof insulation subsidies are available form the energy suppliers.
