There have been roadworks happening in our road since well before Easter... on and off that is, since they regularly seem to down tools and leave it festering for days on end.

We personally have had no notification about this, and today I woke to find our drive blocked by the ongoing work. I managed to squeeze the car out just in time, but returned an hour ago to a large hole being dug. Did you know that it takes 4 men to dig the hole?! One to operate the digger, two to sit on the safety rails and one to sit on our wall...

I spoke to one of the men in a van (don't think he was pleased because he was in the middle of his chips at the time) and was told we should have had a letter from the Gas Alliance. Well, no, we didn't get any letter! But your neighbours did... well, someone from down the road anyway? Well, no, WE didn't!

I looked at the Gas Alliance web page for a number to ring (to find out how long this will last) but the number given is 'no longer recognised'. Aaargh!

It's difficult enough to park around here, which is why we bought a house with a driveway. Sigh.

I just hope they work a little faster than they have done so far - I presume they will put a ramp on on the hole tonight, so that we can have access. Would hate to leave the car where it currently is :-/

*goes off for a calming cup of tea*

Thanks for reading. All suggestions/similar tales welcome.

Try the local Council and ask how long the Permit to Dig lasts for.

Thanks for the suggestion. I just rang the Highways service and they will get an engineer to call me. I just want some information really - communication has been lacking!
