Eating out in Edinburgh & vouchers?

Options
Hi all

Me and hubby are away to Edinburgh for the night on Friday and we wanted some ideas of places to eat our evening meal, and if there are any vouchers going around that can be used. Vouchers aren't essential, but always handy if it happens to be a place you like eating anyway!

We like TGI Fridays type places, Italian, Indian, Steakhouse.

We are staying at the Holiday Inn Express in city centre, so will want to be within walking distance of there. Would also like a place that has a bar where we could sit after our meal and drink or suggestions for a nice bar to go to afterwards.

Many thanks

:)

Frankie and Benny's is in the Omni Centre next to The Playhouse at the top of Leith Walk and they have a 20% off voucher if you purchase two main courses. http://www.frankieandbennys.com/offerimages/FB-May-June-Offer-20-OFF.pdf. Plus there are a few bars in the centre so you could go there after. If you are feeling like a wee pub crawl head along to George Street if you have a bit of cash or Rose Street if you don't for pubs.

Will print off the F & B voucher so I have it just in case. Not sure about there, as we've had some bad experiences at our closest one at Aberdeen beach and it puts you off a bit. Although I know that each restaurant is completely different anyway.
No pub crawl - too old for that, lol! Just somewhere to relax, although we may end up just having a drink in the hotel bar.

I quite fancied the TGI Fridays, we went there years ago, but I don't know if it's any good really or what the bar is like, hubby thinks the bar is a bit too busy in there and more for waiting than chilling and drinking, he's probably right (just don't let him know I said that, lol!)

What about the Hard Rock Cafe, do you know if it's any good, and do you need to book?

    Thanks

TGI Friday is in Castle Street. So more West End of Prince Street. Side Street facing straight at the castle. It is nice but very busy. So is Hard Rock cafe in George Street. As you be in Edinburgh on Friday both will be busy. So I would book in advance if you plan to go to either.

If its quiet its a nice bar to sit and chill at, but there are not that many seats so not great if it is busy. If you are going on a friday night there would probably be a waiting list so the bar will likely be busy. You also cannot make reservations on a friday night.

Hard Rock is nice, hubby and i went for lunch there last week. It was very good.

  • We're going to be up in Edinburgh for a few days for the festival next month. Anyone have any other recommendations for cheap(ish) eats. Pubs serving food would be fine also something a bit more unusual.

Deacon Brodies near the top of the Royal Mile, good pub food at decent prices, go upstairs where there is extra seating. Ambers, downstsairs in the Whisky center is also very good and resonable for the food, but not bargain basement. Has a GREAT whiskty bar :)

There are a few Howies around, serving good Scottish food, they are a bit more, but you can often get vouchers on their web site. Each has a slightly different menu.

Not seen it yet, but apparently there is a new place (or rather a revamped place) on the Royal Mile at the top of Niddrey Street, US themed diner, prices look OK, but not been there yet, so I cannot recommend.

If you are at the HIX on Picardy place there are a couple of places to the right as you come out, and the Omni center is opposite, there is also an all you can eat Chinese buffet there. However, if you want one of these I prefer the one near Waverly Station, on the bridge. It is also worth trying after5pm and top table as Edinburgh resturants are often well represented on there. Group sometimes have Edinburgh deals as well. However, if there during Aug some deals may be thin on the ground as it is one of the busiest times of year.

Hope you have a great time

If you sign up for Slug and Lettuce you'll get a voucher for £10 off a £20 spend, also in the Omni Centre. You need to use it within two weeks so watch the date you sign up.
