Paypal dispute query

Options
Morning all :)

I've raised a dispute in Paypal and escalated to a claim for an item not received - this was on 14th May.
The buyer replied on 16th with a tracking number of 0. She's sent 1st class not recorded delivery or signed for.

Paypal is now sitting at the claim needs my response, but there's nowhere to put in a comment etc.

I've tried phoning Paypal a few times yesterday and each time I get the person telling me they can't hear me. So I'd rather not have to phone in unless I have to :(

So my queries are:

1) how do I respond to this query, or is this something Paypal have set it as but I don't need to do anything?

2) since the seller has put in a tracking number of 0, will Paypal know this is an invalid tracking number, do they actually check?

Not sure if this is useful info but the seller doesn't want to give me a refund until she claims from Royal Mail whereas I'm reluctant to wait that long.

actually managed to get through to Paypal on the phone and got put through to the claims department in Dublin who are closing the case in my favour as we speak - so can consider this post no longer needed I guess :)

If you can try phoning again, maybe from another phone, I've found in the past that if you point it out to them they will close the claim right away in your favour

It is worth noting that the moment a seller puts a fake or non existent tracking number in a buyer can usually persuade paypal to close the dispute. I suppose paypal consider the seller unreliable at that point and just find for the buyer.

    Well done

Thanks Soolin, that seemed to be what the guy in claims was saying, that the seller had put in a 'fake' tracking number so they couldn't prove delivery.
From the listing the seller had stated they were posting Royal Mail 1st Class not recorded or signed for so assuming they have no tracking at all.

I left the seller a neg as they wouldn't refund until they claimed from Royal Mail and also implied I was a liar saying it wasn't received, so I felt a neg was more suited than a neutral. Tbh I'd have left a positive if they'd agreed to a refund at the start.

However she's really not happy with the neg, going on a rant she mailed me through eBay and the follow up to my feedback so now I'm even more annoyed at her. Totally annoyed with eBay in general today it's left a bad taste in my mouth.

Hopefully she ranted at you in the feedback follow up, as that will say more about her as a seller than you. Hope you didn't mention having to open a dispute as that can be removed.

No I knew not to mention the dispute, I put something like item didn't turn up, seller was unfortunately reluctant to refund. was that too harsh?

Think her reply was "AVOID! Buyer demanded a refund via a paypal claim after less than a week!!" which wasn't true, I opened the dispute after about 8 days after posting had passed and she'd basically said she wasn't refunding til after her claim with Royal Mail and that how could she even prove it hadn't turned up.

Thinking back it might have been early to open a dispute, but when I'd mentioned it hadn't turned up and when did she send it and it was over a week - she then said about Royal Mail claim. I said I didn't really want to wait the 3-4 weeks that would take and she said tough and I was probably lying about it. Was a red rag to a bull that one.

Do feel a little guilty now though :(

Don't feel guilty, the moment a seller tries to blame me or expect me to start making claims I would never leave a positive. The most recent one I had issues with ende dup with me leaving a neutral as they tried to send me the COP and expect me to claim, hah, I should coco.

Feedback is there to warn future buyers not to punish, if seller makes a habit of this then buyers need to know so they can judge whether to bother bidding or not. So you did the right thing.

thanks Soolin that's reassuring. Yeah I would have been ok with a refund rather than this whole no wait til I claim and how do I know you aren't lying. Would have been a positive feedback for sure then.

As a quick question - if someone sends a feedback revision request (as this seller did) do they know, or is it made clear that the comment they put in is sent to the buyer along with the request?

Not harsh at all. In fact very restrained, a blot on her FB which is what it's for. Maybe she'll look up her obligations as a seller.
I've never done a feedback revision, so don't know if she can see your comments.

I haven't revised it as yet - and probably won't.
What I meant was she's sent a feedback revision request to me. Presumably you have to put some kind of comment in as to why? So she's put in a big rant about how I'm a liar and have conned her out of money blah blah - which eBay has emailed to me along with the revision request.

I thought she mustn't know it's sent as well, surely if you want someone to do a feedback revision from a neg you wouldn't sent a rant about how that person is a liar blah blah blah. Doesn't make me feel inclined to revise it!
