2nd Hand car I bought could of been a right off
Options
I bought a care before Christmas from a garage and since then I have had trouble with leaks in the car. I have finally got it fixed (needed the windscreen resealing) when the windscreen guy said that it had a new roof on the car and had been in a crash certainly by the damage. I had no reason to believe it had been in a crash and the guy selling it never told me this.

Do you have any comeback if I run on a report on the car and find out it was a right off? What should I do next to make sure that my insurance is valid etc.

what does it say on the V5 registration document? is there any mention of cat c or cat d on it?0
-
no he said he would send it off and then after a few weeks said it must of got lost in the post so I had to send off for a new one. Will it say it on my new version?0

The V5 story smells funny to me. This is what often happens with crash repaired cars - they seem fine but suffer from endless niggling problems. Why oh why didn't you HPi it before you bought it?0

its a bit late but it may be worth doing a hpi check no for peace of mind.
If the V5 says that it is cat c or d then I think that you would have to disclose that to your insurers. If not then you were not to know and they could not show that you had deceived them. I am not an expert though so this is only my opinion.0 -
Lots of cars don't get reported as being crash/repaired, it's another symptom of insurance companies making it more costly (in the long run) to make a claim than to get the damaged fixed for yourself.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

If you bought a car from a garage and they didnt tell you it had been written off then you can get a full refund.
If the car was a lot cheaper than others for the same age/spec/miles etc then they could argue this fact if it ever got to Court.
did you ask how the glass fitter could tell how the roof was new...?!0 -
He just said he could tell from experience. Even if I bought in December is there anything I can do now except put it down to experience.0

You don't know it's been a write off, or in an accident. Could just have been a dented roof, some are just replaced as it's easier than getting the dent out.0
