Delayed Delivery for Purchased Car

Hi Guys,

You have posted a few times recently regarding the purchase of a new car.

When I was contemplating purchasing a car I looked online and at local dealers. I decided to go with a local dealer due to a more immediate delivery date if I changed the spec I wanted. Originally the car that I was told I would get would be from another dealer as long as my credit checks etc went through fine. Today I was told they had a delivery date was mid June because the original car was not release or something and they managed to source another one which was out of country. When I expressed my disappointment as we had thought we would get the car this month and my fear was that now the delivery date could slip into July, I was told in fact that it was likely that I would get delivery at the end of June.

What are my options? I have paid a deposit which I would want refunded. Unfortunately I am not sure what alternatives I would have if I cancelled this purchase having to start from scratch. If they can guarantee the delivery by the end of June I may put up with it.

I just do not want to be strung along...

Most car companies are facing shortages one way or another. The VW Audi Skoda Group has exceptional demand from China and they are struggling to manufacture enough cars. Also some manufacturers are facing shortages of parts from the Japanese earthquake. As a consequence most delivery dates are slipping.

To be frank in the current climate you really need to decide on a spec and stick to it rather than wavering as this is causing the main problem.

Unless time was the essence of the contract, or a specific delivary date is mentioned, you don't have a right to cancel it and get your money back because of an 4 to 6 week delay.

Ok thanks for the advice. I'm not sure where you got the idea I didn't know what I wanted. For my part I have been extremely specific. The dealer have been the ones that have been changing their dates and where the car is being sourced. I am pretty fair and I rather have someone be straight up about the situation. I have agreed to wait for the time period specified and I hope that they will be able to get the car in time.
