debate , but I think the spirit is underlying.
I have a close friend who runs a very large national brokerage , and I know they would pay me if I wanted to make referrals, I would not think it would be right to offer his firm's services here - it clouds the waterAny posts on here are for information and discussion purposes only and shouldn't be seen as (financial) advice.0 -
OK folks. Before this gets tribal. I think this isn't currently covered by the code and is open to interpretation. I think it was right to refer it to us to settle it.
My view is it is best if brokers don't answer about recommending other brokers it complicates things - as we don't know about reciprocal arrangements. So to keep it transparent it is best if that is left.
Actually in this case I think the best answer is to refer the poster to the how to get advice article, so they can talk to some local brokers and find the one that best suits. I will add it to the code of conduct.

The other important issue is how it would be viewed by the FSA if a regulated individual is seen openly recommending or referring to another firm.0 -
Its a shame there isnt a database for mortgage advisers as there is for IFAs. If someone wants an IFA, we can just point to https://www.unbiased.co.uk and tell them to do a search by postcode. Although you could do that to some degree with enquires like this, it would only show IFAs are hold mortgage authorisation as well and not dedicated mortgage advisers (the latter being the better in my opinion).I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. They are not financial advice and you should not treat them as such. If you feel an area discussed may be relevant to you, then please seek advice from an Independent Financial Adviser local to you.0

kenshaz wrote:LeonW. yes you do speak how it is,and that is refreshing .I now feel much happier, that is why each broker should be taken at face value ,as some would not want to be tarred with the same brush as others.Perhaps a lesson has been learned ,the forum is being constantly monitored.
Care to explain the text in bold Kenshaz? Perhaps you should be more specific and name those you feel are tarred or not as ethical as the untarred brokers? If you feel it will cause to much disruption within the forum, feel free to contact me via other means with your reply. I would like to think this is not directed at me, but only you could clear that up....I am a Mortgage Adviser

I started reading this thread as I too am in the manchester area and in the process of getting a mortgage... I am extremely surprised at the attacks on 'mortgage mama' just for trying to help someone...
I thought the idea of this site was to help people like me who have no knowledge or experience in these situations... I am desperately trying to make sure I make the right choice... If someone was to point me in the direction of someone trustworthy then I would be thankful and not accusatory..it would still be up to me ultimately whether to then deal with the said person or not
I posted asking if anyone had heard of a firm I had been in contact with and there doesnt seem to be a problem in that... so what's the difference?
Surely it's better to get some good advice before you commit rather than be on this forum somewhere along the line with loads of problems!!!0 -
Hi Birmanza
Sorry you feel that way, and I do hope you manage to find yourself a good reliable adviser, but obviously I cannot point you in the direction of any one - I would recommend that you have a read through Martins articles, ask friends family and colleagues who they use and if they got good service, and try and find one that way. Avoid TV companies.
I hope you realise its not the advisers who are attacking - they are a good bunch, they are politely just stating their differing professional opinions, which now we have chewed the fat, I do tend to agree with.
Good luck with your house purchase, and don't hesitate to post a thread on here if you need help - I assure you, you will get as much help as we are permitted to give.
