taking a kilt and wedding dress to a wedding in greece, lindos

Hi guys well thats the wedding booked for later this year and also hotel also,i wanted to ask you guys who have been wed in lindos greece how did you bring out the wedding dress,im sure i read that there is some sort of box you can put them into,if so what is it i am looking for and is there different ones?
If there is a special box to transport them in where do they go on the plane i take your allowed to take them onboard?
Also i will have a kilt with me and other items, not sure as yet what else, think it will be too warm for the jacket etc so really the kilt is what i would need to transport over.
Im sure i read that there is some sort of tube to put them in also heard that some just put them in there case, any tips would be handy on this who may have done or got wed overseas before.
Also bridesmaids dresses i take they would just be in there own cases.
Treat everyday as your last one on earth! and one day you will be right.

When my friend married in South Africa she had a wedding dress box that fits the size requirements for hand luggage and was sturdy enough to go in an overhead locker without getting damaged. It had paper layers in it that also protect the dress (acid free??) and she had it packed by the shop she got her dress from.
No idea about kilts - her OH is from Guildford!

Re the kilt there are various options. You can buy a kilter which is specially for carrying them. Also a kilt roll - put it in, roll it up and pop it in a case. Or for a cheaper version use a pair of tights! I wear a kilt for sporting events and carry it abroad in my hand luggage. To use this, fasten the kilt up, roll it so that the flat panel is on the inside, put your arm inside the tights to the toe and then grab the top of the kilt and pull it down over. You will take it out at the other end straight away anyway so make sure to take a suitable hanger that can support the weight.
If taking the kilt in the hand luggage make sure the kilt pin is in the hold. For all it is our national dress it could be taken away despite my protestations.....
If you need to save on weight, the kilt can be worn for travelling, just wear a pair of long shorts underneath that can be rolled up and then take the kilt off on the flight and pop it in the handluggage in the tights as above!

I looked into getting a box, but a lady in a wedding dress shop said they're flimsy and not waterproof (imagine some numpty at the airport spilling a cup of coffee on the box). She said that if it was her, she'd put the dress in a small wheely handluggage sized suitbase - so that's what I'm doing.

My MIL is in charge of taking my wedding dress, but we're finding it hard to find a hand luggage case that is the correct dimensions for Thomas Cook airlines (43cm x 28cm x 23cm) so it might end up being packed very well in tissue etc then going in the hold in her suitcase! My SIL made all our flowers so we've got to take them too, they will be dished out to everyone to put in their hand luggage! It's really stressful but not much that can be done about it, at the end of the day you can only do what you can do and hope for the best!

what did you have in mind, this maybe the better option, thomson airlines is the guys we fly with what is there size limits for handluggage? and i take that its only one handluggage per person.

We're going with Thomson too, and I've been told the hand luggage sizes.

Also, i flew to Dublin with Ryan Air last year and bought a mini suit case for that - I'll probably just use that. Thomsons sizes are larger than Ryan Air, so i know I'm safe. I'm still going to wrap the dress in special tissue etc.

    55cm x 40cm x 20cm is what I've been told, hope that helps x

In answer to your other question - i don't know, i'm getting mixed messages.

When we booked i was told I'd get an extra 5kg luggage allowance for my dress.

Then they wrote to me and told me again about the extra 5kg, and told me that it need to fit into the above dimentions, and fit in an overhead locker. To me, this is hand luggage.

Then in the Thomson shop, they say it's in the hold, and i can still only take ONE piece of hand luggage (i was going to take my handbag and my dress).

Not sure what to do now really.

Also, we've paid to have 25kg allowance in the hold - but i just read on their website that the most you can have in any ONE bag is 23kg, so we're going to have to take an additional bag to put the extra in. Typical.

Surely if you have paid for extra weight it will be allowed in the one suitcase?

As far as I know you can have one piece of hand luggage AND a handbag, providing it isn't HUGE ala Victoria Beckham stylee lol!

Good luck, I have the same problem & as yet haven't come up with a solution. So please keep us posted! :D
