I am having to really press and hold the charger into my netbook for it to charge up, if I let go it stops. Could this be the charger or the netbook itself? I've had it about 3 years now so it's done well really.
I did get a new charger off ebay a few weeks ago as the cable had snapped, kind of. I chose the wrong one (2 holes instead of 3) so I had to take the plug with a 2 hole end, off the cd player. It has worked since we did this, until now. This couldn't have anything to do with it could it?
Thanks, Saz x

Could be.
The charging socket on the motherboard is a common point of failure. dry joint etc.!!

By 2 or 3 hole you mean the cable that goes from wall socket to charger? Doesn't matter. However if the plug on the charger that goes into the laptop was the wrong size and you've been forcing it in, you've shafted the socket and it needs taking to bits and if you're lucky, resoldering and if you're not the tracks on the circuit board rebuilding as well. However the longer you continue to use it like this, the more you risk damaging it beyond repair.0

Thanks, No I meant that the charger is in two halves, the plug from the wall to the middle is from the cd player, then this plugs into a box with 2 holes, on a cable which plugs into the netbook. This bit was from ebay.
closed - how could this be repaired if it was this?
Thanks, Saz x:heart2: THANK YOU MARTIN!! :heart2:0 -
assuming the connector that plugs into the laptop is identical to the old one - by replacing or resoldering the connector on the motherboard, it can also be related to the chips around the connector in some models!!

It is the same, thanks. Will I need to send it away or could I have a go at home?:heart2: THANK YOU MARTIN!! :heart2:0

depends how good you are with a soldering iron and a screwdriver, the hardest part is taking the laptop to pieces. The boards sometimes flex too, which can cause a break in the circuit!!

My mum used to solder for a living, I'll get her to have a look this aft when she's over. Thank you for your help! x:heart2: THANK YOU MARTIN!! :heart2:0

Looks like it might be a home repair then. There are plenty of guides on the internet on how to dismantle that netbook. Your mum doesn't need anything special soldering iron wise and merely needs to just redo the joint.0

Thanks, we'll give it a go!:heart2: THANK YOU MARTIN!! :heart2:0

Well! I took it all apart, every last screw. How dusty can the inside of a netbook get??! I read through a guide online before I turned it off, and remembered how to do each bit. I'm amazed at how these things are put together! Very technical lol. Anyway, the bit that you plug the charger into was completely fine! Solid and attached as I assumed it should be. Hubby then said "Ooh look at the end of this charger, it's a bit loose, it could be that" So he sliced the end open, and lo and behold one of the wires had come away from the solder
Mum then soldered it back on and duck-taped it back together. Bingo!!!
All sortedI really enjoyed doing it and was well chuffed when it all went back together first time and worked a treat.
Thank you everyone for your help xxx:heart2: THANK YOU MARTIN!! :heart2:0
