Does anyone know if it's possible to download text messages from your mobile phone to a PC so that I can keep a record of my messages?
I have a cheap Samsung that the battery will no longer charge so it's cheaper to replace the phone but I need to keep some important texts.
Thanks.

I have a Samsung Tocco Lite.
It came with a little software package on disc for the PC. It's called, 'New PC Studio.'
This allows you to manage your phone by connecting it up to the PC.
If you go to the support section of the Samsung website you can download this from there for free.0 -
It would depend on the model of the phone, and whether it was fitted with a data socket of some description, or sometimes backups can be done via a Bluetooth connection. Most modern phones have a mini USB port that allows the phone to be directly connected to a PC as a USB peripheral device using an off-the-shelf cable. If your phone supports that there will be dedicated software for the PC that can backup the contents of the phone, including the text messages, and upgrade the firmware etc. What is the exact model number?0

was going to ask whether a blackberry curve 8520 had a similar function0

If you want a free, Open Source tool for this then Wammu supports many makes and models of phone (for example more than 100 Samsung models, and even more Nokias), and copes well with Bluetooth, IrDA and USB connections.
Sadly, support for Balckberry and Apple is almost non-existent (probably because both used a proprietary interface).0 -

You need one of these cables - it's called a "USB A to mini-USB B" cable.
Those cables are £10 from Maplins, but are only a couple of pounds on ebay. If you search hard, you can get a genuine RIM cable on ebay for £3. Be careful if you buy really cheap ones (e.g. 20p) because they either don't work, or the plugs snap off.
Once you've got the cable, the Desktop software for the PC to backup the Blackberry data can be downloaded for free from http://uk.blackberry.com/services/desktop/0 -
Thanks for your replies. I'm not even sure that the phone has a mini USB socket and certainly no bluetooth or any other PC connectivity.
It's not even as if the data is on the SIM card.
Thanks again.0 -
Some Samsungs have the PC interface built into the charger socket so its not as obvious as a separate socket. You would need a cable specific to that type and model (probably) rather than a generic all USB cable. My very sincere apologies for those hoping to request off-board assistance but I am now so inundated with requests that in order to do justice to those "already in the system" I am no longer accepting PM's and am unlikely to do so for the foreseeable future (August 2016).
For those seeking more detailed advice and guidance regarding small claims cases arising from private parking issues I recommend that you visit the Private Parking forum on PePiPoo.com0
