Argh! Buyer is a nightmare!

One buyer bought two make up brushes off me. They took AGES to pay (I had to chase them for payment) and tonight they have messaged me claiming the brushes are fake and the want to return them and they want me to send them money first to cover the return postage costs.

I am so annoyed because the brushes are not fake, I bought them to do my wedding make up with and I only just threw the original receipt away after I had sold them on ebay (finding the receipt prompted me to put them on eBay in the first place)

What can I do - how can I prove to ebay that they are not fake? I do not offer returns and the buyer knew this when they purchased from me.

Any advice?

  • It depends what dispute they have opened. If they have opened an ebay dispute then its up to you to prove they are genuine (receipt) but if they have opened a paypal dispute then they have to prove that they are fake.

It doesn't matter if you stipulated that you do not give returns, you cannot override ebay policy no matter what you put in your listing.

Have they opened an official dispute yet?

No, they haven't opened a dispute yet they have just messaged me to say that they want a refund.

I was a bit suspicious of the buyer when they han't paid after 10 days so I was trying to check their feedback and it was all private.

    I'm really gutted.

If they haven't yet opened a dispute, advise them that they are not fake but they can return tracked for a refund - and you'll refund on receipt of the item. If they open a dispute for snad, they'll have to return this way.

However, if they open a 'fake' dispute could be a bit more tricky
Remember disputes count against sellers now so if you can avoid one have a go

If they open a dispute and win (which they will if its an ebay one) when the refund is forced not only will the dispute effect your seller complaince but you also wont be refunded your paypal fees which you will if you refund voluntarily.

You also won't get your brushes back.
  • The other scenario is they could send back fakes of your original brushes (if these are commonly faked items - guessing MAC).

I thought that buyers had to send back the item(s) if they won a dispute for SNAD and that if they are fake then the onus is on the buyer to prove it?

Not with fake items, usually the buyer is told to destroy the item.
