Comparison Sites & EoN ?

A week or so ago I started "shopping" :rotfl::rotfl:around as my current deal wuth Eon is coming to an end.

Used at least 2 of the comparison sites Energy helpline and Uswitch included.

Didn't touch Eon directly.

I then received a call purporting to be from Eon who said that, as I was comparing, was there anything they could offer me.

I already knew what was on offer from them via my online my account.

They didn't offer up anything else, although I was definitely looking to move, if they didn't.

Does Eon own one of these sites or have some kind of commercial tie in like the insurance ones? I didn't ask to be contacted just wondered how they knew:think:

Have u done any comparisons on their personal website? If u have, your contact details would have been sent to one of their call centers. Which in turn would contact you to try and offer u something better.

I have only opened up a link on my online account with them. That only gave the tariffs available it didn't compare - I had to build the spreadsheet for that:eek:.

They have told me it is ending and told me to look there so not sure that would have been the trigger.

I've done the same on the EON several times in the past 3 weeks - To see if any new deals have appeared :( -I've also been on USwitch - but no phone calls!!

They definetly have no contracts with any of the comparison websites. Maybe merely clicking on the linksends them info that your interested in a new tarrif.
Either that or its coincidence that the phoned you while you were in the process of looking and played it down the phone like they knew you were?

Eon do not call customers whose deals are ending, you get a letter informing you of downgrade to Standard/Energy Online tariff and an invite to visit Eon website to look at alternate pricing or call in to Eon, NOT Eon call the customer. It would not benefit a so called comp site claiming to be Eon if they are looking to sign you up as comp sites only get commish if recommending a new connection, you cannot change tariff via a comp site with existing bill provider.

    Hi grizzly1911,

Airmike23 is spot on really, we don't call customers when their tariff ends, you should receive a letter/email that tells you what tariff you will be changed on to unless you decide on a different one.

Not sure really what would have prompted the call, without seeing the account.

Did they ring for any other reasons as well as this?

No just that they had been aware I had been using "USwitch" I think. Definitely one of the comparison sites.

    Hi grizzly1911,

Just to reassure you, when you've been comparing prices on uSwitch.com we definitley don't let your energy supplier know this. It would be a bit conuter-productive for us as we only make a return if you switch on our website!

We're not owned by E.ON or any other energy company - we're part of the Forward internet group, which is privately-owned business.

Hope this helps and feel free to drop me an email at the address in my profile if you have any more questions.
