The cost of divorce?

Can I ask how much those with amicable divorce's paid for their divorce? Obviously not relevant to those on legal aid but if anybody who had an amicable divorce but with assets needing to be shared house etc, could give me a rough idea of how much it cost in total and how much per hour your solicitor charged that would be very helpful.
Trying to get some information for somebody so they don't end up getting fleeced for solicitors fee's that are way above what they should be. Obviously they're not looking for a bargain bucket solicitor and they do wish to use a solicitor but need a rough idea what it could/should cost.
Thanks

I did a DIY divorce. It cost me under £500 but I didn't bother with the financial order , that would have cost another £200-£300.
Have a look on wikivorce website for all divorce info and advise.0 -
If everything is amicable, there is absolutely no need to involve solicitors.
It's done painlessly on the internet these days for a few hundred pounds.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -

Even with a clean break order?
Maybe the non solicitor avenue should be looked into then."Life is what you make of it, whoever got anywhere without some passion and ambition?0 -

TBH I wish I had done this ! My ex H is an annoyance and we aren't friends but there were no objections to the divorce from either side but I got lumbered with the cost we had no assets to share it was simply a divorce and a clean break the only thing we needed was provision for the children i.e when he could see them etc but that was part of the divorce paperwork.
So my divorce straightforward it would seem ! The cost to me ???

You don't even need to do an online divorce. The courts have all the forms or you can download them. It is currently £340 for the Decree Nisi then £45 for the Absolute.
You really only need a solicitor for the Consent Order/Clean Break. This is because it had to be written in legal language. You can use online companies for this for around £140 plus a £45 court fee.0 -
We did DIY, with property and children, my ex paid it all but I believe it ws £380 all in. The only contact he had with a solicitor was one who was a friend who checked the forms before he sent them to court.Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0

£1780 Solicitors costs.
But I also paid extra for Mediation to come to an agreement for a Consent Order.
IMHO, if the divorce is totally agreed on both sides, and no quibbles about the house/kids, then online divorce can be fine and cheap. Throw in any kind of a dispute, and you really need a solicitor on your side.0 -
Some very useful comments. Thank you.0
