Hi
I have Psoriatic arthritis and have now been awarded high dla care and mobility indefinately. My consultant and doctor helped me a lot with the forms. I am only 33 and have been in so much much pain for the last five years. Hope you get the help you need. x0 -
OP
i do have a lot of sympathy for you - my dear brother has dreadful Psoriasis - you can't get a 10p piece anywhere on his body without it touching a patch of sore/scaly skin
he also has severe epilepsy following a brain tumour and has High rate care and low rate mobility for his Epilepsy ( it is VERY poorly controlled)as a result of his care needs
he also finds the dead sea products excellent for helping his skin - like you he has to use tar baths and steroid creams etc and has had to replace his lovely old enamel bath with a plastic one as all the chemicals stripped the enamel off the bath
anyway - sorry waffling on - what I wanted to post about was PUVA treatment - my brother had had spells where he has been sent for light therapy treatment called PUVA on the NHS by his dermatologist - it REALLY helps with clearing up the psoriasis - you can't stay on it too long, but it really does help when things get very bad- which they do for my brother as his epilepsy medication seems to worsen his psoriasis
just a thought

As this post states DLA could be a possibility.
So make an application which can be done online so able take your time and also print off a copy to keep when/if assessment or further questions come around.
Just be careful when filling out forms or get asked questions like "how are you on a good day or how are you on a bad day?" as answer might be used against you in the future, even if you answer honestly with best intentions.
nb: **Am NOT suggesting telling porkies** but just be careful and take you're time.
Good luck.0 -
Hi, it's quite possible to get DLA for this awful illness but you need to show you have care and mobilty needs. My husband has psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis. He's been awarded high rate mobility and middle rate care indefinitely.
If you think you may have care needs keep a diary for a week or two listing any help you have received. Don't forget that even though it's based on care needs to actually claim DLA you do not need to be actually getting the help but rather need it.
As you have said you suffer with the arthritis side of the disease maybe a referal to a rheumatologist might help? My husband's been treated much better by his than when he was under the dermatology department who really didn't know enough about the illness as a whole. Unfortunately even some Drs don't realise the extent that the inflamation can have on not just the bones but on multiple organs too.0 -
(I appreciate you are stressed, but a thank you never goes amiss.)
Seriously? I can't believe you actually said that. Good grief who gives a monkeys if somebodies clicked thanks or not, to say it is unimportant is quite an understatement!"Life is what you make of it, whoever got anywhere without some passion and ambition?0
