A gross exaggeration, all they want to know is if you are on the right train.
Not a gross exaggeration, I have seen people penalised on the East Coast Mainline in the past because they were not in their allocated seat but they were on the correct train.

I think it is not outside the realms of possibility with certain known guards on EC.
It was to Taunton - I can tell you that much as i went too - and probably from Paddington as loads on the train i was on all had Advance singles for the journey there and all for the different train to which they were on.

all got stung - though IIRC it was only £24 each to upgrade their tickets so maybe it wasnt Pad after all.

Thats the problem with weekenders - people get wrecked then just want to get home ASAP on the monday

Weekday timetable says Taunton has a 1523 departure (1J99) to Paddington calling at Frome, Westbury, Pewsey, Hungerford, Newbury, Thatcham, Theale, Reading and Maidenhead.

There is no 1330 departure, however there is the 1334 (1A83) from Penzance, calling (after Taunton) at Reading only.

The Super Off-Peak Single (SSS) from Taunton to London Terminals is £37 each. I think we're starting to be able to piece things together.

I've never heard of this and I struggle to believe they were not given a chance to move. They could be asked to move to the correct seat. Only if they refuse would I expect a charge to be made. There must be more to this!

What was the guard's name? (best sent as a PM) I will ask my friends who work for East Coast to do some investigating...

There are no direct trains from minehead to london - you would need to get the WSR from minehead to bishops lydyard (sp) then bus to taunton then train from there to london.

Doesnt matter what train i get as i get an open ticket but as i said there were lots on the way down to Taunton who were on the wrong train as they all wanted to be with their mates who had booked different to them and all got stung.

More then likely on the way back too as they had to be out by 10am from butlins so an hour by coach or so to taunton and they wouldnt want to wait around
