I've had good experiences buying refurb laptops from Bigpockets, especially IBM ones (husband's description 'built like a tank')
They have some REALLY cheap ones with low specifications - you could get one for less than £100 which you could live with if you were really patient. However, I would personally go for something like this - only £180....Ex board guide. Signature now changed (if you know, you know).0
