I have had a credit card with LLoyds TSB for about 18 years .I tried to cancel the PPI back in 2009 ,only to be phoned by a stroppy mare who told me that because it was a large amount i owed that i should not cancel it !!
I then wrote to them in April 2010 asking them to cancel it and that they should not contact me as my desision was final.
I dont ever remember asking for PPI as i applied by post .Do you think the little PPI box was automatically ticked ? How can i find this out please

sounds like the ever helpful lloyds!
dont quote me but im pretty sure if the account is still active you can ask for the agreements etc when you set-up the account etc which will cost you a £1 and a letter asking for the account info, although being 18years ago they may not have this via this method. You could also request a SAR from them costing £10 which will give you a more detailed report on the information they have/ hold on your accounts. but again being from 18years ago i wouldnt be too sure.
send the request for a SAR to:
LLOYDS TSB BANK PLC
DSAR TEAM
CUSTOMER SERVICES
RECOVERY TEAM
CHARLTON PLACE C57
ANDOVER
HAMPSHIRE
SP10 1RE
And a template for SAR letter can be found here:
http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/...html?t=1475553
but id wait and see what others say incase its a waste of £10 as its from 18years ago.

Yeah sounds just like LTSB.
I have a card from 2004, dont ever remember being given the option of having PPI, it was forced on me, the usual story- no ppi, no card. I tried to cancel the PPI in March 2006, by phone, as I became unemployed through maternity leave/ leaving work voluntarily for raise children, I had tried to to claim on the PPI only to be told I could not!, due to leaving work voluntarily. So, as it was no longer covering my needs, I asked for it to be cancelled. This was not done.
In Dec 08, as it had not been cancelled, and we facing financial hardship due to husband becoming unemployed, I queried why it had not been cancelled, and could I still make a claim if need be? No, I was told, and yet I still had to pay a worthless insurance!!!!.
As PPI became in the media spotlight more, I wrote in Aug 2010, by recorded delivery to LTSB, (using template from MSE) asking for it to be cancelled, refunded, etc. I have received the standard letters from LTSB about them looking into the matter, but it has taken 5 letters & 6 months for them to cancel the PPI in Feb 11.
My husband is with the Nationwide for his C.card, who are the total opposite to LTSB, the PPI was claimed on by him (and he is self-employed) when he was out of work, and did exactly what it said on the tin - paid out when out of work, and while he was injured.
So LTSBs PPI was not only mis-sold in the first instance, but also is unable to be claimed on for 6 out of the 9 nine years Iv had it, and was a real struggle to cancel. Talk about daylight robbery!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!0 -

Its actually very reasonable for the bank to turn down a claim because of leaving work voluntarily. Otherwise you could just leave work and go on a years holiday and get all your PPI's to cover payments. :rotfl:
Its also very unlikely that they added in the PPI without a tick. Could you have signed up and forgotten?
Saying this, the Lloyds Credit Card product was very poor. So bad in fact that its considered unsuitable for most people.
You may want to apply using a SAR to get the application form and then you could start a complaint if you feel you didn't need the policy? Details about sending a SAR are on another thread on this forum.
Some banks had staff trained up to persuade you into keeping PPI when you call up and try to cancel because it was such a money spinner. Why should you have to fight an salesperson to cancel insurance you don't want!?0 -
Think I wasnt clear....I wasnt so naive to think it would cover me after leaving work, tho half hoped it may cover just my maternity leave. The point is, once I was out of the longterm employment, the ppi was just a waste of money, as I could no longer claim on it until resuming work. But it has been a difficult job to have it cancelled.
And from the outset, it was mis-sold anyway.0
