Now my perfect place would be somwhere like Clent or Romsley or maybe Belbroughton - but these areas are well out of my price bracket :)

Yeah, lol! I have a permanent search on Belbroughton. Lots of place in Bromsgrove you can walk out up public footpaths into the same countryside, suprisingly near to the town centre and you can get to the Bell & Cross in Clent for a meal quite easily and that is to die for :D

Seriously, if you're aiming for green places, then what's the point in even looking on the North side of the M42?

areas I couldn't comment on are

    Erdington
    Northfield
    Castle Vale
    Bartley Green
    Woodgate Valley

Add them to the avoid list. Especially Northfield, unless you want a Home Bargains. I went there a couple of times and each time I've had to share a queue with a junky so I'd go to Harborne to the one there instead.

EDIT: Must remember to use multiquote :o

Oh, I don't mind living in a built up area, as long as I'm not seeing (hearing) the motorway from my house. I need to be realistic on what I can get within my budget - so a decent house in a non-thuggish area would be great.

Home bargains, yes forever sharing the queue with junkies/alcho's!!

OP - Heard some bad reports about Belbroughton believe it or not, got a bit of a drug problem for somewhere apparantly sought after, Clent and Romsley very nice though and yes, also out of my price range

    Burcot, very nice aswell

Drugs in Belbrougton?! Cannabis farms maybe, they seem to love renting in expensive areas but I doubt the local WI indulge themselves very often!

How about Redditch? It's fairly near to the motorway (but not so near that you can hear it) and there are some reasonable house prices, just be careful of the areas you buy in.
I have a lot of problems with my neighbours, they hammer and bang on the walls sometimes until 2 or 3 in the morning - some nights I can hardly hear myself drilling ;)

Northfield/Longbridge you can get some undervalued places, have countryside nearby, are towards the edge of the city, and...I have it on good authority there are some interesting developments planned for the old Rover plant area, which will bring some affluent work and traffic to the area. Not allowed to say any more, but the next couple of years could see Longbridge turning a corner.

Northfield/Longbridge has a lot of 1930s private build semis and 50 years ago seemed quite a nice place to live (apart from the smell from "the Orrstin" (Austin) on Tuesdays when they were spraying the cars). I don't know what's happened since but as paddyrg says, prices seem very cheap.

Longbridge i sense will be nice when its all complete, at the moment Bournville collage is being built and i predict a tesco or asda as there are none within 5miles atleast i reckon (big superstore).

Im from bournville (i have a flat with the bournville trust) and i love my flat and all the area, im 24 in june so i must admit the pub thing is a downside but its a very big plus point, there are no drunks and the parks/area is always clean! loads of parks, there also building about 100 new 2/3/4 bedroom houses and some more tennis courts, we had a newsletter thru the otherday!

Hope you pick what you want, Northfield is a big no no...Redditch CAN be nice...
