Frustrated with E.On

Hi all

I'm having problems with E.On energy. I live in a shared student house and have just switched from E.On to another company. Another person has their name on the E.On account, however she is out of the country on a study abroad programme, and so I have been responsible for paying the bills.

We have had our last bill and I paid online using my debit card. However I accidentally clicked the pay button twice, so now our account is ~£250 in credit.

I phoned on Friday and was given the runaround - first I was told that it was my bank who would have to cancel the transaction, but after speaking to five(!) people there they told me in no uncertain terms that it was E.On's responsibility. I phoned E.On again to be told that yes, they were wrong, but that I had to phone on Monday morning to speak to a manager.

So today comes around and I phone them, to be told that I cannot get a refund on my debit card (which is in my name) because I am not the account holder. I spoke to a manager who told me that there is absolutely nothing I can do unless they hear from the account holder, who is not back in the country for another 3 months.

Is there anything I can do?

As the account is not in your name Eon should not speak to you AT ALL about the account. Contact the account holder and ask them to phone Eon to get money back. They can then send the money on to you.

Do you have the account details?

Pretend to be the account holder.

I do that with 3 people who do not have internet connections. I have set them up with online tariffs and I input their readings etc. for them. Accounts are all in their own names.

Not ideally the best thing to do claim to be someone else. Hopefully E.ON's DPA sercurity questions are good enough not to be fooled by this.

Note DPA does not prevent you talking to E.ON only from them providing you information or taking action on an account that is not yours.

The account holder could send E.ON an email to allow you to have DPA consent on the account or adivse them to refund the money

Depends if the poster supplied all the validation stuff on their behalf.

I doubt he is alone on this one either. A lot, of older people especially, are at a disadvantage if they are not able to access online discounts for utilities/phone and the like.

In my opinion it is age discrimination of sorts.

Might be a bit of give a way if he rings on behalf of his mum though.;)

Then I would get my wife to phone.

    What questions would they be?

If the people who I run their accounts online for have to phone, they phone as themselves.

I just run the online part. As far as eon are concerned, it is the customer who are putting in readings and downloading bills.

What happens if I drop dead? Nothing, the customer just gets someone else to do the online part.
