What is the correct internal temperature for a fridge?

Options
We bought a fridge freezer from Argos 2 years ago - a Beko CDA660F. After using it a while I noticed that the internal temperature of the fridge was 8-12C (on the top shelf). After contacting Beko and Argos, Argos agreed it was faulty and they would replace it. After about 9 monthds went by waiting for a replacment to become available I was told they couldn't get one, and I got a refund of my £380. I then found the same model with Comet for £300 and bought that. The reason for getting the same model wad that it was the only one I could find with that volume of fridge and freezer (it's huge about 8 ft high).

To try and cut a long story short, this Fridge was exactly the same - Comet have just replaced it with another and this one is exactly the same.

The bottom of the fridge is 1c (fine) but the top is 8-12C (8 in the morning and 12C at times during the day when 2 adults and 2 teenagers are using it).
Maybe this is fine and I'm expecting to much?

I thought the internal temp had to be no more than 4C from what I've read?

Cold air falls - to me, the larger the fridge means the higher the temperature differential will be between top and bottom.
Plus, it is surprising how much just difference just quickly opening the door will make. As soon as you open the door the cold air will "cascade" out of the bottom.

Mine runs at 5 degrees at the top shelf - measured with a 99p fridge thermometer from fleabay.

Are you doing measurements with the door closed?

It all dependent on how your measuring the temp. Modern energy saving fridges won't keep the compartment cool if the door open.

And take a torch because we're led to believe that the light goes out when you close the door.
