Hi,
I recently changed my gas and electricty supplier from E.ON Energy to Scottish Power. E.ON Energy then offered me a better deal and I have consequently changed back.
I was with scottish power for just over a week, and in my final bill they have charged me a cancellation fee.
Can they do this, even if it's in the cooling off period?
Many Thanks
Carrera

Hi Carrera,
As you have received a bll from Scottish Power you would have been outside any cooling off period you had.
Cooling off periods are generally 7-14 days from the date you agree a sale with an energy company.
A change of supply be between 2 companies takes 4-6 weeks so you would have definately been outside 14 days.
Check your T&C's to make sure that a cancellation fee should apply.0 -
Hi carreraclarke,
Tomo85 is correct, our cooling off period allows you to cancell any switch, however once you have switched you are subject to the terms and conditions and cancellation charges.
Kind regards

Graeme - I don't think "kind regards" is probably the best sign off. Maybe "Hope that clarifies" or similar. Just my opinion as a consumer/potential customer."If you act like an illiterate man, your learning will never stop... Being uneducated, you have no fear of the future.".....

Hi I signed up on 26th May. I believe I have 15 days cooling off to cancel. So if I cancel today will I be charged the cancellation fee?0

Hi there
I believe it should be a 15 day period, however, the easy way to be sure is to call them and ask them. They should be able to check on their systems if you're still in the cool off period or not.I am an employee of British Gas, however the views expressed on this post are mine and do not necessarily reflect the views of Centrica, its subsidiaries or affiliated companies.0
