Carpet cleaning

Hi

I have some stains in my carpets that I am finding difficult to remove. I am therefore looking to hire one of those carpet cleaning machines such as Rug Doctor.

Can anybody recommend an economical carpet cleaner for hire that works really well?

Thanks in advance

If the stains are very bad no cleaner will get them 100% clean - it also depends what material the carpet is made of.

Asda currently have a Vax cleaner for about £40 - we have an older similar model and it does an excellent job on our carpet, but the level of staining and the carpet type affect how well cleaners work.

Hi Daveyjp, thanks for your reply - I'll investigate the Vax cleaner.

I also wondered about hiring a machine from a company for a day to see if that would help, but these seem to come in around £25 which seems a lot for the day! Has anyone hired a cleaner machine before, if so does that seem like a reasonable cost and are the machines worth using?

    Many thanks.

Hi, i've hired a rug doctor before - you also have to buy the cleaning fluid, so it works out a bit dearer, but to be fair, it did a pretty good job on my carpets - did mine, my mum and dads and my grandmas all in one day to make it worthwhile !

The Rug Doctor machines are very good, they removed tea, coffee and other numerous stains from our pale-coloured carpet. The machine is very heavy and cumbersome to use and it does take a bit of getting used to, I ended up with a big puddle on my hall carpet, it doesn't seem to like "cord" type carpets very much. Doing the edges and corners can be fiddly but you do get accessories included when you hire the machine.

The cleaning solutions can work out very expensive, don't do as we did and buy far too much, you won't need as much as you think! We also schedule our cleaning with a friend so that we can share the cost.
