ADT House Alarm, not fit for purpose, please help!

Hello,
On 3rd May I had an arranged visit from an ADT Alarm dealer. He came to my home and carried put a brief visit and I agreed to have a system installed.
The price was good base upon what was offered. £99 for the system installation and 22 a month for the monitoring and maintenance.
I signed the agreement and an install date was provided.
I paid the £99 using my MasterCard.
Fast forward to last Wednesday, the engineer comes to install the alarm system. He appears very competent and knowledgable. The engineer then shows me how to use the system and leaves.
Over the last few days I have grown increasingly concerned that the dusts is twirling correctly, this comes to a head this weekend. I had friends staying over and this morning, despite the alarm being set, they unwittingly went downstairs whilst I was asleep. The alarm did not trigger despite being set! They even went into two different rooms, made coffee and switched the telly on!
I am gobsmacked the alarm didn't trigger.
I then carried out numerous tests, setting the alarm and waking around the house. The sensor in the Hall needs me to be about 2 metres away and waving my hands before it activates. The one in the lounge the same.
I called ADT and they sent an engineer today, he "off the record"said the alarm wasn't installed right.
I.e. There was a sounder in the line on the PIR in the hall, obstructing it's effective range and meaning it couldn't operate correctly.
He has gone away and is asking a manager to call me tomorrow.
I am not happy, the alarm system was decided upon as ADT is a leading , trusted brand. I am away a lot with work and my partner is alone a lot, hence we wanted a monitored alarm.
I don't think the system is fit for purpose, I have no faith. The contract is for three years, is there anything I can do?
Ideally I would like to reject the system as not being fit for purpose and not as sold to me.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance

You must give them a fair opportunity to rectify before rejecting as unfit for purpose. Ideally, write a short note to them, explaining the current situation, with particular reference to the problem with the dusts twirling and that you want it fixing on a reasonable time scale. Hopefully, they will sort your problem and the note will be a waste of time. But if they fail to sort it out, this will give you a paper trail which could prove pivotal.Over the last few days I have grown increasingly concerned that the dusts is twirling correctly, this comes to a head this weekend. I hate auto correction when I am typing!
" I have grown increasingly concerned that the dusts is twirling correctly, this comes to a head this weekend"
I meant to say... I have grown increasingly concerned that the system isn't operating correctly and this came to a head this weekend!0 -
Your auto-correct's on drugs then. How does 'operating' become 'twirling' unless, in attempting to type 'operating', you merely hit the keyboard with your face a few times?

Re. your dilemma, DVardys said it all, really. Hope you get this sorted."Growth for growth's sake is the ideology of the cancer cell" - Edward Abbey.0 -

I think it's more to do with my sausage fingers trying to type double handed! Note to myself- single finger typing only from now on.

The alarm was the same again this morning, I set it last night , came down this morning and made toast and tea , walked into the living room and watched ten minutes of the news before it even picked me up.
Btw, I could maybe understand it not picking me up if i was a very slight figure, but I am 6' 2" and 16stone!
Isn't technology brilliant!0 -
Obviously you don't leave enough room for the dusts to twirl.Btw, I could maybe understand it not picking me up if i was a very slight figure, but I am 6' 2" and 16stone!

If you get nowhere with your complaints to ADT, put in a complaint to the NSI
