Transporting a freezer.

Hi
I've bought an integrated freezer on eBay and I need to collect it.
It's an integrated one, 87cm tall by 60cm, so not too big.
Unfortunately my estate car is 84cm tall.
Short of chopping the top couple of inches off it does anyone know if it would do any damage to carry it, either, on its back or on its side?
It's brand new so shouldn't have any ice/water in it, and the journey is only 30 miles.
Thanks

You should be fine transporting it on its side. When you get it home though stand it upright where you're going to put it but don't plug it in for a few hours. This gives it time to settle. I've moved fridges and freezers like this and never had any problems.0

It should be stood for as long as possible up to 24hours to let the coolant settle back to the resevoir. 3 hours is sufficient when its upright but on its side etc requires longer to make sure it will be ok.
Other than that its fine to transport it how you like!0 -
I would agree with this - even a brand-new freezer is recommended to be stood upright for at least 24 hours before switching on. You might even want to leave it for longer - it will cause a lot of damage if it's switched on too soon, so not having a freezer for 48 hours is a small price to pay for avoiding that.0

Thanks everyone, that's pretty reassuring, I'm hoping that it may just fit in a friend's Picasso as they are quite tall, otherwise I'll feel happier now lying it on it's side for the journey.
Many thanks, georgiac0
