Washing machine washing? - how many days to leave Wet? before it smells?

I once washed my clothes, when my sister was away in spain.
I left the wet clothes out, in a basket for 2 days, and they started to smell of dampness.
I know they should be put in a dryer straight away, but what is the max amount of days you should let them stay in the basket for, until they smell?
or can they be left in the machine, for 1-2 days....until you put them in a dryer?

They need to be taken out of the WM at the end of the wash cycle and dried straightaway..................
....I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)0 -
Just put them in the drier or hang up to dry straight away. Don't leave them in the basket.

Why would you get them out of the machine and just leave them in the basket anyway? It's not how far you fall - it's how high you bounce back.... :jHappiness is not a destination - it's a journey

If they are starting to smell of dampness also remember that it is degrading the fabric. The natural process is to break down the fabric. i.e rotting... Your clothes will wear out faster. So never leave them for much more than a few hours.:footie:
