Laptop screen broken, messed up external Monitor. Please Help.

Options
Hi, I have done a silly thing to my laptop setup display while playing about with the settings.

Let me explain...
I have bought a laptop with a broken screen so could not see anything on the screen at all, managed to hook it up to an external lcd monitor. Got it going with fn+f5 keys. It was working fine but I was having a play about with the display settings. Thinking until I can afford to get another laptop screen I can set it up so everytime it is booted up it will display on the external monitor. However during this settings change I have managed to make the lap top screen primary and monitor secondary in the display settings. So the result being the display on the lcd monitor is magnified about 10 times. Meaning I can only see a small part of the whole desktop and cannot get back in to display to change it. Also the screen resolution looks very pixelated. Just managed to find the cursor on the monitor, it is as though the res has gone from 800x1200 to 80x100 or something like that.

Can anyone out there help please, kicking myself for playing about with the screen.

I have tried all that my limited knowledge allows, fn+f5, tried to go in to display properties but cannot see it on the monitor. Settings and power down and start again, always stays the same.

Change the VGA boot order in the BIOS

    Thanks KillerWatt,
How do I go about doing that?

Also will safe mode show the full desktop?

As you can see I am a newbie with tendency to break more that fix lol.:o

I have just tried the above, unfortunately no good. The laptop screen as I mentioned earlier is totally knackered so cannot see anything and nothing has come up on the lcd monitor at all. The light on it is staying orange as opposed to green when it gets a signal. However I think the laptop itself has gone in to safe mode, but I cannot see what is what on it.

Go in to the BIOS using the relevant key when prompted

Yes it will, although it will only be at amaximum res of 800x600

I noticed that when you said you tried to tell Windows what the default video output should be ;)

Are you using the Fn keys to switch output?

I'll explain again what I have done

I did change output from laptop to external lcd screen via fn+f5, however I have messed about with it and now the output is already to the lcd screen.

The only problem is I can only see a small portion of the desktop on the lcd screen, because the resolution is messed up.

I cannot see the whole of the desktop screen so cannot go to start, control panel and change back settings because the lcd display is not showing that part of the display.

Of the small portion of desktop showing on lcd I have managed to right click on desktop and select properties, however the display properties results is not visible on the lcd screen due to only seeing a portion of the desktop.

What I need is some clever person to show me how I can get lap top to show the whole desktop on the lcd monitor, rather than just a small portion of it, which is magnified about 10 times resolution.

An alternative method when in Windows 7, is press the WINDOW key along with P - then select "projector only". It should stay in this mode for subsequent reboots. If struggling to get to display properties, you can use ALT SPACE M to move the window around, and ALT SPACE S to resize them.

p.s. I think Closed meant for you to try FN F5 at boot time to get into bios +/- safe mode.
