what application was she doing the work in? Microsoft Word/Office or some such?0

Microsoft Word0

It installs Malwarebytes with a near up-to-date rules.dat - but it's not as frequently updated as what you'd get from running an Update yourself, and copying the rules.dat over manually. Probably if malware blocks an MBAM update, then it'd also block MBAM installing in the first place as well - but my reasoning is that at least a new user in a panic will be running mostly updated definitions.
Still unclear. Does it install the application or is it just a rules update?0 -
Hi All
Just got a large mug of coffee and daughter No 2 to help, No1 is still of no use to anyone:mad: so I am about to attempt option in post 4. Can I stay oline while I do it?? Thanks0 -
I would personally have run recuva first but people seem to be against that (although I would have thought coursework recovery is more urgent that computer disinfection- although computer disinfection may return the work... not sure)
Anyway download malwarebytes Download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware 1.50 - FileHippo.com and install it on your computer if able to. Then UPDATE tab click CHECK FOR UPDATES then run a QUICK SCAN. Remove everything it finds and post log here. You can stay online but you may have to restart computer depending on the infection.
Post a comment if having problems.
Also I really do hope the word document will turn up but I would be safe and start rewriting it if possible just in case.0 -

Post #4 is about recovery. Using Recuva risks the OP overwriting important data.
Better to do it by hand.0 -

OK I think we're confusing you. Did you do just point number 4 or 1,2,3 then 4?
To stilltheone: I assume it is to install malwarebytes then update definitions. Both this and just running recuva may overwrite the date but unlikely surely...
And the thing which came up I assume is hitmanpro?0
