There is usually a quick formula button (bit like a sideways M) which will add up a column of figures for you.

This is an openoffice.org tutorial that starts off with summation.

Carl, what are you trying to do exactly?
Tell us which cells contain the values and we'll amend

Or alternatively, upload a dummy document (a replica of the one you have but with false values) to google documents and we can actually show you what you need to enter

You probably need to say =sum(cell1:cell2) or something similiar?

What are you trying to do?

    What is Openoffice?
    What is Libreoffice?
    I don't know.
In my little world I am a legend in my own lunchtime on spreadsheets but I don't even understand macros. However, I am pretty good at using formulas and can make spreadsheets sing and dance to my satisfaction.
There could be a simple solution to your problem but, as things stand, we really don't know what your problem is.
Do you care to share a bit more detail about what you are trying to achieve?

Dear OP, all spreadsheets will have a little learning curve. Thet are like electronic squared paper, you can do stuff with them, but if it is more than just drawing, you need to know what you are trying to do, and think methodically.

Each cell on a spreadsheet is like a tiny powerful calculator. It can do a simple sum (try typing "= 2 + 2" (without quotes) into a cell, it will display "4"), or a more complex one ("= C5 + 2" will add 2 to whatever is displayed in cell C5, and display it in whichever cell you entered the formula in). Form thereon, it is more of the same, but with more complicated formulas for more complicated things.

I suggest you take a beginners course, or at least follow a good tutorial, as all spreadsheets work more or less the same, and once you master working with them you have a world of power at your fingertips - but you will need a little upfront effort!
