I am not very technical so forgive me if this is a none starter but I am looking to download programmes from BBC i player to my I Pod Touch to watch on train journeys. Is this possible?

Yes.
Shows that are on the BBC iPlayer website can be downloaded onto a PC using programs such as get_iplayer.
Then transferred from the PC to a mobile device.
